Recently I became extremely upset with this so called
"stimulus" plan, and just couldn't take it anymore. Now I know
there isn't much I can do, but I can (at least for now) able to tell my
senators (Patty Murry and Maria Cantwell in this case) how I feel. And I
am also able to tell them how I, as one of their constituents, feel. I
realize that they won't listen, much less read my letter, but I had to do something!
So I thought I would share my letter with you in hopes it would inspire at
least one person to do the same. I also received a "response"
(which I am positive was either automated, or some intern) from the office of
Sen. Murry.
The letter I sent:
Dear Senator,
Now is an extremely troubling time
for our nation. We as a country are going through the toughest financial
crisis since the Carter administration. Thousands of jobs are lost
weekly, yet the best that the majority in our nation’s congress can come up
with is a “bill” that has more pork in it then a can of Spam. As one of
your constituents, I am charging you with the task of saying NO! Do not
vote for this bill. All it will do is doom our children and their
children to decades of debt. I, as a hard working citizen, do not want my
government to place on me another $9000 dollars of debt. Because that is
all this will do, force onto every citizen another $9000 of debt to another
country.
This administration ran for
election on the idea that it would bring change to the way our country is
governed. But all I have seen is the same old ideal of spend like there
is no tomorrow, with no regard to what it will do to our children. And
the same message is being sent out by the leadership in our congress with this
bill. Speaker Pelosi just today trumpeted the idea that we cannot
continue as a country without this bill. She spoke about ushering in a
new era of openness and bipartisanship, yet does everything she can to shut out
anyone with an opposing idea.
I implore you. STOP THIS
CYCLE OF SPENDING WITH OUT A PLAN! There are real, proven methods of
creating growth in our markets. Spending without a plan, increasing taxes
on all Americans, and printing billions in new money is not the answer.
These are the tactics that kept us in the Great Depression far longer then we
should have.
If you want answers, look to what
Reagan did in the 1980’s. Look at what he accomplished with the
democratically controlled congress in the spirit of true bipartisanship.
All I ask is that you debate all ideas. 97% of this bill wouldn’t even be
spent for a year. THERE IS TIME! Rushing into something only leads
to strife and the regret that the wrong decisions were made. Have a true
debate, and decide on a plan that ALL sides can agree on. LETS ACTUALLY
PRACTICE THE DEMOCRACY THAT WE HAVE SPENT SO MUCH IN PROTECTING FOR OTHER COUNTRIES!
JUST VOTE NO!
Sincerely,
Cabriel Lovlie,
Natural Born Citizen of the United States, and Defender of
Her Constitution
And the response I received:
Dear Mr. Lovlie:
Thank you for contacting me
regarding economic stimulus proposals. I appreciate hearing from you about this
very important issue.
As a U.S. Senator, creating a strong
economy and getting Americans back to work is my top priority, and I appreciate
your input on what should be done to achieve these goals. I am currently
working with my House and Senate colleagues as well as President Obama to move
numerous measures designed to strengthen the economy. As we move forward, I
strongly believe Congress and President Obama must work together in a
bipartisan fashion to implement policies that will help stabilize the economy,
create jobs, provide resources for workforce education and training programs,
rebuild our nation's infrastructure, and help Americans facing hard economic
times.
Be assured I will continue to work
with my colleagues to address the many issues facing our economy and workforce.
Thank you for sharing your ideas and concerns. Please feel free to contact me
again, and I will keep your comments in mind.
I hope all is well in Everett.
Like I said, I HIGHLY doubt that Sen. Murry actually wrote it, but I thought I would share it anyway.
